A year ago, we embarked on a voyage that I had no idea would go the direction that it has. We started promoting the ViSalus Sciences “Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge”. Just a few weeks into this voyage, we were completely sold on the products and the business opportunity associated with it. No real surprise there. I only promote products that I would use even if there was not a business opportunity attached. What we did not understand was the impact it would have on our lives.

The word ViSalus actually means, Life, Health, Prosperity. I had no idea when we started this journey the impact that it would have on these three areas of our lives. I thought we were just going to help people lose some weight and maybe make a little extra income. What we have found is how this so positively helps people. When your customers send you texts, Facebook messages, give you calls thanking you for sharing the 90 day Challenge with them. When they tell you how much better they feel and the positive impact it has had on their health. When your promoters share with you that they now can afford to do things that were never possible before. That is REALLY what this company is all about.

We discovered how passionate the founders of the company are about actually helping their promoters improve these three aspects of our lives. Customers are good!

In the majority of MLM or Network Marketing companies that I have been a part of, the vast majority are simply interested in “recruiting” new distributors. The entire marketing plan is basically, recruit distributors that use the product, who in turn, recruit more distributors to use more product. What you really end up with is a large wholesale buying club. With the economy in the dire straits that it is today, this business plan fails to make sense to the majority. This is true because the “typical” products that these companies market are priced at a premium. Premium items are the first to go from your discretionary spending.

The founders of ViSalus Sciences had found that out the hard way. The primary product was a relatively expensive (albeit phenomenal) Vitamin/mineral/essential fatty acid combo. Even with their patented products (how often do you see that!), the demand suddenly dropped with the onset of the recession. Fortunately for me (and all the other ViSalus promoters) with a few minor tweaks, they came up with the Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge. One of the main ingredients with the Challenge is that our “customers” can easily get their products delivered to them for free by simply getting 3 referrals. In addition to that, the Promoters (distributors) can also get their products for free AND the free products qualify them for their monthly auto-ship requirements! How cool is that! No longer do I have to actually “buy” something to get qualified for commission payments every month!

Has ViSalus been successful? Just look at the numbers, over 80,000 new people joining the Challenge every month, over 25 BMW bonus earners every month, upwards of 3000% growth in 2011. With a customer to promoter ratio of close to 7 to 1, yes, customers are GOOD! Their Vi-net website is in the top 10 direct selling companies (ranked by traffic on alexa) in the WORLD and are only doing business in North America. ViSalus is on track to be the first company of its type to reach $1 Billion in sales in North America alone. Currently doing business in the US and Canada, there are rumors of further international expansion on the way.

It’s amazing that most companies still limit there purchases to their distributors (and many are doing so poorly with cash flow that they are delaying payments to their distributors) while ViSalus apparently has plenty of cash flow and from personal experience, have paid their monthly commissions twice in the last quarter EARLY! Yes, Customers are GOOD. When looking at your next opportunity, do your due diligence and make sure that you are getting involved in a company that is growing and paying.

ViSalus Growth

Just a relatively short video from ViSalus going over the 3rd quarter 2011 Growth of the Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge. One interesting point that Blake Mallen makes is that ViSalus gave away $1.5 million in FREE merchandise to its promoters and customers. WOW, that’s more than some entire companies do in volume! Just recently I received a call from an old friend who asked me to attend a Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge Party. Unfortunately, I could not attend. That cost me nearly 2 weeks! Fortunately, he was a good business person and followed up. We met at my office a couple of weeks later and he walked me through the ViSalus marketing plan. But even more importantly, he made me a couple of the Body By Vi shakes. WOW! I was hooked. Not only was there a huge market for the product and and excellent compensation plan but this stuff tasted GREAT!

Not being one to make rash decisions, I did my due diligence as well as I could in less than 24 hours, but after seeing what kind of growth ViSalus was having after creating the Body By Vi 90 Day Challenge marketing concept and investigating their back office options, I jumped in with both feet. We made Director in 24 or 25 days. That made me a “Rising Star” and qualified me for an extra bonus check! Ok, I could have probably done it faster, but being conservative like I am, I didn’t really share the opportunity with anyone until after I received my product, then waited 4 days until a Monday to start on the Challenge. Another mistake for me. Oh well, I got better!

You have to understand, I have been involved in several Network Marketing companies over the last 20 years and it usually took me months to generate a check at all (if at all), much less to actually get a check along with a BONUS within my first 30 days! Blogs are crawling off, into forgotten corners of the web and just blinking out of existence at a sickening pace. (Suicidal Blogs)

Why?

Because blog writers are fickle and selfish, all they care about is becoming popular and and making a bunch of money. If the blog they write does not perform the way they want it too, they neglect it, to the point it can no longer take it, then it dies. This is really sad but it is true.

Can we really blame the author of the blog?

No, because, no one can expect, to throw love at a blog, day after day and never get kind of return.

A little while ago, I purchased Ryan Deiss’ Facebook Ad Power. What a refreshing change to all the other BS that I have seen in other “training” courses of so called guru’s of Internet Marketing. Straightforward, to the point, and information that you can actually use!

Ryan’s Facebook Ad Power is one ot the best traffic training courses I have seen. He has already updated the info to make it even more current!

I know as a marketer we are supposed to put some kind of “urgency” in a post like this but the only urgency I see you need with this product is “It’s great info” and a real value for what the course costs. He has however taken it off the market once and may do it again. Why?

As one of the owners of a “brick and mortar” business as well as a budding Internet Entrepreneur, its interesting to see all the “different” ways the “Guru’s” in the Internet business come up with to get new customers.

I have been lucky enough to be able to work with my Father in our business for the last 25 years. Undoubtedly, one of the BEST marketers that I have ever met.  Nothing, and I mean NOTHING has ever been to “over the top” for him.  He even rode a bull during a Rodeo event that we sponsored as a fund raiser for the local Fire Dept. People still talk about that years later! I have come to the conclusion that marketing is marketing is marketing.  It doesn’t mater if you are creating blogs, capture pages, videos, writing tweets, posting on MySpace or running newspaper ads, having giveaway promotions, running specials, or even riding bulls. It is ALL the same! It’s building relationships! While certainly there are many many differences, when it gets down to the bottom line, it’s “what kind of impact” can we have on others, that will make them want them to do business with US!

There is a tremendous amount of competition in the Internet world as well as in the brick and mortar world. We happen to be in the grocery industry. If you think you have a lot of competition in cyberspace (and we all do) try being a small independent grocery retailer going up against WalMart or other regional or national chains. Competition is good. It makes you better. Online marketers need a way to differentiate themselves.  To stand out from the others. Make yourself a leaders. How do we do that. We have to find a way to serve. We serve in the retail world by having products that our customers want at a competitive price. We (our company) serves by still taking groceries to our customers cars. Yes, it’s a little old fashioned and costs us a considerable amount in extra wages, however it also “differentiates us from the Mega stores. We give better customer service. We have to in order to survive.

Online, we have to serve as well. Become a giver instead of a taker. Take the time to answer that question someone posts, give them a URL to a site that will help them, help them learn a new skill. All with NO AGENDA! I have been involved in the network marketing business for many years. I’ve always had some moderate success but never become a “heavy hitter”. One may ask why I still love network marketing if I’ve never made a huge amount of money in it. The MAIN reason? I have friends all over the country. Some going back nearly 20 years, that I would have never met, if not for network marketing.  I’ve built groups the old fashioned way and online.  For me all this social marketing, Web 2.0 stuff is simply networking. It’s just relationship building taken to the next logical step.

Learn your craft (and there is a learning curve). Don’t jump in and oversell every contact you get in your inbox. That would be like me following customers around in our stores and putting an extra rib eye in their cart. I don’t think they would appreciate that. Help them, learn from them, establish a relationship. Let them know what you do of course, but let them decide how they want to do business with you.  I love to show our customers how much better our rib eyes are and we will cut them just like they want. Establish your niche, show how you do it better, and they WILL buy. Then, they are your customer for life! I’m still doing what I did 20 years ago. Building relationships. The ONLY difference is, we now call it Web 2.0 or Social Media Marketing, and we do it online.
